  • Federer-Verdasco will be preceded by the first bout of the week, which will pit fourth-seeded Andy Murray against fifth-seeded U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, who stunned Federer in September's Grand Slam final in New York.

    The Day-2 schedule for Monday was also announced, as second-seeded Rafael Nadal will battle eighth-seeded French Open runner-up Robin Soderling and third-seeded and defending World Tour Finals titlist Novak Djokovic will encounter sixth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko in a rematch of last year's finale, which was won by Djokovic in Shanghai.

    Nadal missed last year's final in Argentina due to a knee injury, as Spain went on the road to defeat the favored Argentines, 3-1. The Mallorca native has battled knee and abdominal injuries this year, with knee problems preventing him from defending his title at Wimbledon this past summer.

  • Djokovic earned a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) triumph on Sunday for his second straight tournament crown and the 16th title of his career. He also won last week's Swiss Indoors tournament, beating another hometown favorite in world No. 1 Roger Federer.

    Sunday was Djokovic's 10th final of the year, including his fifth in a Masters Series event. He had lost the previous four Masters finals, falling in Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome and Cincinnati.

  • The 22-year-old Djokovic continued to come into his own with an eye-opening 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Spanish sensation Nadal. Djokovic won a staggering 83 percent of first-serve points and blasted 31 winners at Nadal, a player who normally covers the court better than anyone.

    Djokovic didn't face a break in the match and will take the momentum into the final against the fan favorite Monfils, who needed more time and effort to slip past Radek Stepanek, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

  • The second-seeded Nadal dethroned defending Paris Masters champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in a 7-5, 7-5 decision, while the third-seeded Djokovic claimed a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 triumph over Sweden's Robin Soderling.

    Both Tsonga and Soderling were in the running for the final spot in the exclusive eight-man field for the World Finals, which will be played in London starting November 22.

  • The third-seeded Djokovic rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over French qualifier Arnaud Clement, while the eighth-seeded Tsonga needed just 52 minutes to post a 6-2, 6-3 win over countrymate Gilles Simon.

    Tsonga is the defending champion of this event and now controls his own destiny for a berth in the season-ending ATP Tour World Finals. If he can successfully defend this title, he will be one of the players in the exclusive eight-man field in London later this month.

  • 1 superstar Roger Federer was shocked by Frenchman Julien Benneteau, while former top-ranked slugger Rafael Nadal staved off five match points before winning his second-round match Wednesday at the Paribas Masters, the final Masters tournament of the season.

    The unseeded Benneteau bounced Federer in 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 fashion on Day 4 here.

  • Unfortunately for Serena, the most entertaining thing she did was berate that line judge at the U.S. Open.

    The powerful American stole the Open spotlight for all the wrong reasons after directing some choice expletives at the linesperson, who was on the bad end of a verbal tirade after calling an untimely foot fault on Serena with a big match in the balance.

  • 1 Marat Safin barely came up an opening-round winner Monday at the Paribas Masters, the final Masters tournament of the year.

    Thetwo-time major champion Safin, who plans on retiring after this tournament, held off Frenchman Thierry Ascione 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) on Day 2 at Palais Omnisports, where the big Russian titled in 2000, 2002 and 2004. Safin saved three match points to stave off Ascione and extend his career for at least one more round.

  • The second-seeded Djokovic notched a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 triumph on Sunday for his fourth title of 2009, while also denying the Swiss superstar a fourth straight crown in Basel.

    "It is definitely a big achievement to beat Roger in his home city and country," said Djokovic. "He had a huge amount of pressure on him to win today.

  • Blake notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory over veteran Fabrice Santoro, who has said the 2009 season would likely be his last on the ATP Tour. Becker rallied from a set down for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over wild card entry Michael Llodra.

    The two matches were the only first-round tilts on Sunday's schedule. Each of the 16 seeds in the field received byes into the second round.

  • The top-seeded Murray posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory on Sunday in a mere 69 minutes to improve to 6-1 in ATP finals this year. His six tournament titles are the most on tour.

    In addition to Sunday's crown, Murray also won in Doha, Rotterdam and Miami early in the year, while capturing the titles at the Queens Club and Montreal in the summer.
