Revs re-sign pair of veterans, rookie draft pick
Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution re-signed midfielder Mauricio Castro and goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, the Major League Soccer club announced on Monday.
"We're pleased to bring Mauricio and Bobby back," Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. "Mauricio struggled with injuries most of last year, but we're expecting him to play an active role on the team this year.
Bobby is a young player, but one whom we believe will get better with continued training alongside veterans Matt Reis and Preston Burpo." The 28-year-old Castro is entering his third season with the Revolution. He made 30 appearances with the club, recording four assists, including missing most of the 2009 season with a hamstring injury.
Shuttleworth, 22, is entering his second season with the Revolution after serving as the club's No. 3 goalkeeper this past season.
In other Revs news, the club signed 2010 first-round draft pick Zack Schilawski to an MLS contract and officially added him to their roster.
