Rapids nab defender Gibbs
Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rapids took advantage of their position in the Major League Soccer allocation table to sign American defender Cory Gibbs, the team announced on Wednesday.
"Any time you can add a defender with experience at a high level it is a positive," Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo said. "Cory is a solid player and can play both centrally and wide on the backline and will add leadership to the team." Gibbs, who has 19 caps for the U.S. national team, has been unable to play first team soccer due to injuries since the 2006-07 season while with Den Haag in the Dutch Eredivisie. During his playing career, the Florida native has also played for St. Pauli in Germany, the Dallas Burn in MLS, Feyenoord in the Netherlands, and Charlton Athletic in England.
