U.S. magistrate denies restraining order to Barron

In a statement Monday evening, the PGA Tour said it was "pleased with the court's decision" but noted it would not have further comment.

Barron was given a one-year suspension by the PGA Tour for testing positive for a beta-blocker and testosterone, according to court documents.

Mathematically, four players have a chance at the money title. Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is first, followed by Englishman Lee Westwood, German Martin Kaymer and another Englishman, Ross Fisher.

With a victory on Sunday, McIlroy, Westwood or Kaymer would win the Race to Dubai.

McIlroy in top 15 in world rankings

McIlroy, who can win the European Tour money title after this week's Dubai World Championship, jumped up four spots to a career-best 13th.

Tiger Woods won again this week, this time at the JBWere Masters in Australia and strengthened his lead atop the rankings. Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker remained in second and third, respectively.

Watson's run prompts new British Open exemption

Andrews, Scotland (Sports Network) - Tom Watson's epic run at this year's British Open Championship prompted the R&A to amend entry criteria for future Open Championships.

On Monday, the R&A announced a new exemption category starting at the 2010 British Open at St. Andrews. Condition F (4) "exempts from qualifying any past Open Champions who finished in the top 10 and ties in any of the previous five Open Championships, thus effectively providing them with a five-year exemption into the Championship." Watson, 60, was in his final year of eligibility as a former champion this year at Turnberry. He had a sixth claret jug in his grasp, but a bogey at 18 forced him into a playoff he eventually lost to Stewart Cink.

Ames comes back for Disney title

Ames parred the second playoff hole to topple George McNeill and Justin Leonard for his fourth PGA Tour victory and second in three years at this championship.

"At the end of the day yesterday, I said if I shot 64 I had a good chance at winning the tournament," said Ames, who pocketed $846,000 for the victory. "Sure enough, I ended up shooting a 64, which was great." Ames' 64 was exactly what he needed to catch Leonard and McNeill, who both had 67s on Sunday. Leonard and McNeill were third-round co-leaders and Ames was tied for eighth at the start of the round, but they all finished regulation at 18-under 270.

Wild finish leads to four-way tie in Disney

The quartet is tied at 13-under 203 and is one clear at Disney's Magnolia Course.

These four share the lead, but how they got there was downright "Goofy." Leonard had a commanding cushion until his flat stick abandoned him on the back nine.

Leonard fires 64 for lead at Disney

Leonard, tied for 11th place entering the round, made 11 birdies on Disney's Palm Golf Course to go along with three bogeys.

He stood at 12-under 132 for a two-shot lead over Rose and George McNeill.

Streelman wins $1 million Kodak Challenge

Streelman made a three-foot birdie putt on the par-four 17th hole at Disney's Magnolia Course, building a three-shot lead that will be impossible to catch over the weekend.

The $1 million check is more than Streelman, a second-year player, has made in official PGA Tour prize money so far this season. He earned better than $1.35 million last year.

Barron used beta-blocker and testosterone

In documents filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Memphis, it was revealed that the positive tests came during the St. Jude Classic on June 11.

Barron, the first player to receive a suspension since testing began in July 2008, has sued the PGA Tour in an attempt to lift it. The case was being heard Friday.

Rose on top by one at Disney

Rose, who is looking for his first PGA Tour win, entered the event ranked 96th on the money list. He is in no danger of losing his tour card as the top 125 on the money list after this week will keep their playing privileges for 2010.

Rickie Fowler is trying to earn enough money to skip Q School and earn his PGA Tour card.

Golf Tidbits: McIlroy coming to the PGA Tour

The announcement, which the promising 20-year-old from Northern Ireland made in Hong Kong, paled in comparison to Tiger Woods announcing, "Hello World" in August of 1996.

It would be easy to miss the fact that McIlroy played in 11 PGA Tour events in 2009, including all four majors and the three U.S. based World Golf Championships events, though that's not to say the former top-ranked amateur didn't make much noise in those events.

Kim downs O'Hair in Kiwi Challenge playoff

Kim, who was the runner-up to Hunter Mahan in 2008, closed with a five-under 66 at Cape Kidnappers Golf Resort. O'Hair birdied the 18th hole to shoot two- under 69 and join Kim at five-under-par 137.

The duo headed to the 650-yard, par-five 15th for the playoff hole. O'Hair had trouble with the trees left of the fairway leading to a double-bogey. Kim needed four shots to reach the green, then two-putted for bogey and the win.

Kiwi Challenge suspended after 16 holes

High winds caused the suspension of play at Cape Kidnappers Golf Resort. Four players make up the field, with the other two being defending champion Hunter Mahan and last year's runner up, Anthony Kim.

The winner collects $1 million.

"Come on!" Woods screamed to a person standing beyond the No. 7 tee box at Sheshan International Golf Club. Spectators craned their necks to see who the shutter-bug was who had snapped a picture during Woods' back swing.

The No. 1 golfer in the world also cursed at the spectator, although it was one of the tamer phrases in his blue arsenal. Woods then scowled as he walked down the fairway, a solid mass of disgruntlement.

Mickelson fends off Els to win HSBC Champions

Recovery from shoulder surgery delays Norman's return

Norman had surgery on his damaged right shoulder in late September and his surgeon, Dr. James Bradley, advised the 54-year-old to sit out the event scheduled to take place between December 3-6.

The Aussie will also sit out the 21st annual Shark Shootout, which he will still serve as host the following week.

PGA Tour announces 2010 slate

"We are very pleased to announce our schedule through the 2010 FedEx Cup season," said PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem. "Despite difficult economic times we once again have a full slate of events and look forward to yet another exciting season for the PGA Tour." The FedEx Cup season begins with the SBS Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii, from January 7-10.

The regular season ends with the Wyndham Championship August 19-22.

Barron is first golfer to fail doping test

Barron was issued a one-year suspension that began immediately after the failed test.

"I would like to apologize for any negative perception of the tour or its players resulting from my suspension," Barron said in a statement issued by the PGA Tour. "I want my fellow tour members and the fans to know that I did not intend to gain an unfair competitive advantage or enhance my performance while on tour." The PGA Tour said it would have no further comment at this time and it was not immediately clear when Barron had failed the test.

Poulter, Fisher make world rankings gains

Poulter was a wire-to-wire champion at the Singapore Open, collecting his first title in three years, and moved up six places to a career-best 15th in the rankings.

Fisher also secured a career-high ranking after beating Anthony Kim in the final of the World Match Play Championship, jumping nine spots to No. 17.
