Patriots add TE Crumpler

According to the Boston Herald, Crumpler will help replace the void created by the departures of tight ends Benjamin Watson and Chris Baker.

Crumpler spent the last two seasons in Tennessee and caught 27 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown in 16 games in 2009. He recorded four straight years of at least five touchdowns for the Falcons from 2004-07 but has served primarily as a blocking tight end in recent years.

Cardinals ink LB Porter to three-year deal

The veteran linebacker, who turns 33 on Monday, was released by the Dolphins earlier this offseason after spending three years with the club. In 14 games last season, Porter logged 41 tackles and nine sacks but battled knee injuries through most of the year.

"It is exciting on many levels," Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "Having another veteran player, who has had great success in this league, to contribute will only help us in an area defensively where we want to improve." The Colorado State product spent the first eight years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with whom he recorded 498 tackles, 60 sacks and 10 interceptions. His sack total ranked fourth in team history at the time of his release.

Jets S Smith signs tender

Last season with the Jets, his fourth in the NFL, he played in all 16 games, starting four. He totaled 48 tackles, six passes defensed and one interception.

Over his career, which has been spent entirely with the Jets, he has 147 tackles, 15 passes defensed and four interceptions.

Curtis was limited to 12 games the past two seasons due to a sports hernia and knee injuries following a 77-catch, 1,110-yard campaign in 2007, his first year with the Eagles.

We just feel good about the young corps of receivers we have on our team at this point." 49ers cut ties with GM McCloughan

McCloghan was named general manager in January of 2008 after the team stripped then head coach Mike Nolan of his personnel power. At the time, McCloughan was vice president of player personnel, a position he had held since 2005.

Eagles sign newly-acquired Tapp to three-year deal

Philly acquired Tapp from the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the week in exchange for defensive end Chris Clemons and a 2010 fourth-round draft pick.

Last season with the Seahawks, Tapp played in all 16 games and recorded 49 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and three passes defensed. In his four-year career, all with Seattle, he has 186 tackles, eight forced fumbles and 11 passes defensed in 64 games.

Seahawks trade for QB Whitehurst

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Chargers received Seattle's third-round draft pick in 2011 while the teams also swapped second-round picks this year.

Whitehurst was selected by the Chargers in the third round of the 2006 draft but has appeared in just two games since. The Clemson product has served as a backup to Philip Rivers and will be behind Matt Hasselbeck in Seattle.
