  • Summer Bird moves to third in NTRA Poll

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Summer Bird, winner of Saturday's Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park, advanced into third in the latest NTRA Thoroughbred Poll.

The three-year-old trails only Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta in the weekly standings.

Owned by Drs. K.K. and V. Devi Jayaraman. Summer Bird moved to within five points of 2008 champion older female Zenyatta with 148 points. Zenyatta, who received one first-place vote, lost 11 points from last week's total of 164.

Zenyatta is set to start in Saturday's Lady's Secret Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

The five-year-old mare, who won last year's Lady Secret, is undefeated in 12 lifetime starts, including three this year.

Three-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra, who has been shelved for the remainder of 2009, continues to lead the poll with 189 points and 18 first-place votes.

Arlington Million champ Gio Ponti dropped one spot to fourth following his second-place finish in the Turf Classic at Belmont Park.

Rounding out the top ten are Einstein, Forever Together, Mine That Bird. Zenzational, Careless Jewel and Quality Road.

Careless Jewel, winner of the Alabama Stakes, enters the top ten off her dominating victory in Saturday's Cotillion Handicap at Philadelphia Park.
