  • Blackhawks begin six-game swing in Calgary

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks begin their annual circus trip tonight with the opener of a six-game swing against the Calgary Flames at Pengrowth Saddledome.

The Blackhawks trip out west couldn't come at a worse time, though, as Chicago's 4-3 overtime win over San Jose at the United Center on Sunday was the club's seventh straight at home. The 'Hawks wrapped a perfect four-game homestand with the victory and are 10-2-1 as the host this year.

On the other hand, Chicago is just 2-3-1 as the guest and has lost three straight away from home. The Blackhawks will look to end that skid out west, as they visit Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles on the swing.

The Blackhawks trailed by two goals on Sunday before getting second-period goals from Patrick Kane and John Madden. Cristobal Huet ended with 20 saves and Brent Seabrook made Chicago a winner by scoring 41 seconds into overtime.

"We showed some courage and determination down 3-1. That's what we're all about," said Huet. "The guys in the room never quit." It was Seabrook's second goal of the season, both overtime winners. His first came on October 12, a 6-5 overtime victory versus Calgary in which the Blackhawks rallied from a 5-0 deficit they faced less than 12 minutes into the game.

Huet started that game, but gave up three goals on the first five shots he faced before exiting early. He is 2-4-0 with a tie and 3.06 goals-against average lifetime versus the Flames.

The victory was Chicago's fifth straight in the regular season versus the Flames, who the club also beat in six games in last season's quarterfinals.

The Blackhawks are expected to have Kris Versteeg back after he missed the San Jose game with an upper-body injury. Marian Hossa is also expected back at some point on this trip, as he has yet to make his Blackhawks debut after offseason shoulder surgery.

The Flames hope to get some revenge over the Blackhawks tonight, but also get back on the winning track after Tuesday's 3-2 setback to the Avalanche. Jarome Iginla scored for the eighth time in his last seven games, and Rene Bourque also scored in the loss.

"We had some scoring opportunities but we never capitalized on them," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter.

Miikka Kiprusoff allowed three goals on 24 shots for the Flames, who had earned a point in each of their previous six games (5-0-1) and fell to 6-4-0 as the host this season.

Kiprusoff, who allowed all six goals in the loss to Chicago earlier this year, is 8-7-4 with a tie and 2.88 GAA lifetime versus the Blackhawks.
