  • The Flames have begun the month of November with consecutive road victories and picked up both of those wins in overtime. Calgary has won five of its last seven games overall.

    After beating Dallas, 3-2, on Wednesday, the Flames came out the following night and edged St. Louis, 2-1, at Scottrade Center. Dion Phaneuf scored the game-winning goal against the Blues, as he slapped a shot past Chris Mason at the 2:50 mark of the extra session.

  • The Coyotes ended a two-game slide their last time out as they notched Thursday's victory over visiting Chicago. It was also the fourth victory in six games for Phoenix, which has a surprising 10-6-0 record on the season.

    Phoenix posted a 3-1 decision over the Blackhawks thanks in part to a goal and an assist from Martin Hanzal.

  • Carolina tries again to snap the longest losing streak in club history this evening in a road clash with Columbus at Nationwide Arena.

    The Hurricanes, who reached the Eastern Conference finals a season ago, are just 2-10-3 on the year and have lost 11 straight, going 0-8-3 in that span.

  • The Penguins started out with wins in their first seven road games this year, but were dealt a 5-2 setback Thursday in Los Angeles. The seven straight road victories tied a club record from the 1992-93 season.

    Pittsburgh, which leads the Atlantic Division with 24 points, has lost two of its last three games and has been playing without last year's Art Ross Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin as well as top defenseman Sergei Gonchar. Malkin suffered a strained right shoulder on October 28 and is expected to be back later this month, while Gonchar could be out until early December.

  • Dallas hits the road after snapping a three-game losing streak with Friday night's 2-1 victory over Vancouver. Despite firing a season-high 47 shots on net, only Brad Richards and Brenden Morrow found the back of the net.

    Richards extended his point streak to seven games, notching three goals and seven assists on the run, while Marty Turco halted 32 shots in the victory.

  • Playing for a second straight game without Alex Ovechkin, the Capitals also lost Mike Green (undisclosed) and Jeff Schultz (lower body) to injury last night. However, thanks to 28 saves from Jose Theodore as well as a goal and two assists out of Brian Pothier, Washington notched a 4-1 victory to halt a three-game losing streak.

    Brendan Morrison tallied twice and Tyler Sloan snapped Panthers netminder Tomas Vokoun's scoreless streak at 147 minutes and two seconds with a first- period goal.

  • The Flyers have outscored their opponents 17-5 over their current win streak, the club's first three-gamer since opening the season 3-0-0.

    Following two straight six-goal outbursts, Philadelphia got a pair of goals out of winger Daniel Carcillo in last night's 5-2 triumph in Buffalo. The goals were the first by Carcillo in a Flyers uniform in the regular season since being acquired from Phoenix last season.

  • New York dropped a 2-1 contest in New Jersey last night, falling to 1-4-3 as the road team. Frans Nielsen scored the first goal of Friday night's game, but the Devils notched the next two, as former Islander netminder Yann Danis made 23 saves versus the Islanders.

    Martin Biron stopped 29 shots for New York, which is 4-2-2 at home this year.

  • Ottawa shoots for back-to-back victories tonight, when it continues a four- game homestand at Scotiabank Place versus the New Jersey Devils, who will try to post the second-longest road winning streak to open a season in NHL history.

    The Senators overcame a pair of third-period disallowed goals in Thursday's 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay thanks to Spezza's overtime tally, his first of the season. The three-time 30-goal scorer also assisted on regulation tallies by Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fisher.

  • Montreal comes back home after besting fellow Northeast Division member Boston in a shootout on Thursday, with Mike Cammalleri scoring the only goal in the deciding phase to give the Habs a 2-1 victory.

    The Canadiens nearly prevailed in regulation, but the Bruins sent the game into extra time when Patrice Bergeron knocked home a rebound of teammate Zdeno Chara's shot with just 52 seconds left in the third period.

  • Detroit hopes to shut down the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs tonight in an Original Six matchup at Air Canada Centre.

    The Red Wings have outscored their opponents, 7-2, over their winning streak and held the dangerous Sharks to just a goal in Thursday's 2-1 victory. Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk scored in the shootout, while Zetterberg also tallied a third-period goal to force the extra time.

  • The Bruins have been outscored 5-1 over their skid, as they were shut out in back-to-back games by the Rangers and Red Wings before Thursday's 2-1 shootout loss to the rival Canadiens.

    Boston, which endured a scoreless run of 192 minutes and six seconds, got a goal out of Patrice Bergeron in regulation and 25 saves from Tim Thomas. Zdeno Chara and Derek Morris assisted on the game-trying goal, which came with 52 seconds left in the third.

  • Nashville hopes last season's mastery of the Kings can carry over when the two clubs face off for the first time in 2009-10 this afternoon at the Staples Center.

    Los Angeles, which hasn't reached the playoffs since 2001-02, has been one of the pleasant surprises in the early portion of this season. The upstart Kings have posted a strong 10-4-2 record thus far and have recorded a point in eight consecutive contests, having gone 6-0-2 over that stretch.

  • Daniel Carcillo scored twice while Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who have won three straight. James van Riemsdyk and Darroll Powe each lit the lamp in the game.

    "Our lines have been playing real good," said Carcillo. "I wanted to help in the points production and the goal scoring. It feels really good to get that monkey off my back and get a couple of goals." Derek Roy had a goal and an assist while Tyler Myers also had a goal for the Sabres, who had won five of six coming into the contest. Ryan Miller was charged with four goals on 36 shots in the loss.

  • Cory Murphy and Brian Rolston lit the lamp for the Devils, who have won four straight and welcomed Patrik Elias back to the lineup.

    Elias, the franchise's all-time leading scorer, missed the first 13 games of the 2009-10 campaign while recovering from offseason groin surgery.

    While the club welcomed Elias back to the lineup, forward Rob Niedermayer (upper-body) and defenseman Johnny Oduya (lower-body) were placed on IR.

  • The reigning Hart and Rocket Richard Trophy recipient, Ovechkin is considered week-to-week because of an upper-body strain he suffered in Sunday's overtime loss to Columbus.

    On the season, he leads the league coming into play Friday with 14 goals and has also added nine assists in 14 games.

  • Washington will be without its superstar for Friday night's battle at BankAtlantic Center versus the Florida Panthers and goaltender Tomas Vokoun, who is coming off back-to-back shutout efforts.

  • The Avalanche began a three-game residency on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over the Coyotes. The win improved them to 5-0-0 as the host this year, one victory shy of the 6-0-0 mark the 2007-08 squad started the season with.

    Milan Hejduk scored twice and had an assist versus Phoenix, while Marek Svatos and Davis Jones also scored. Colorado, which also got three assists from Paul Stastny, halted a two-game slide and won for the fifth time in seven games.

  • Dallas forward James Neal is questionable because of a groin issues for this evening's game versus the Vancouver Canucks at American Airlines Center.

    Neal scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime loss to Calgary. He has six goals and four assists over a career-best seven-game point streak, but was unable to practice on Thursday due to his injury.

  • The Flyers have posted consecutive decisive victories in their last two outings against Carolina and Tampa Bay to record back-to-back wins for the third time this year. Philly's longest winning streak came when it began the campaign with three in a row from October 2-6.

    The Sabres, meanwhile, have played at a high level all year and, at 9-2-1 they lead the Northeast Division with 19 points. Buffalo has recorded wins in five of its last six games.

  • The Devils are 9-4-0 on the season and have won three straight, six of seven and nine of their last 11 games. Despite the surge, New Jersey is still third in the Atlantic Division and three points in back of the second-place New York Rangers.

    Jersey is coming off Wednesday's home victory against the Alex Ovechkin-less Washington Capitals. Nicklas Bergfors scored two power-play goals in the third period, as the Devils defeated the Caps, 3-2, at the Rock.
