  • Karlsson, Crane make big gains in world rankings

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Robert Karlsson and Ben Crane parlayed big wins on Sunday into significant gains in the world rankings.

Karlsson, after missing significant time last year due to an eye injury that left him with blurry vision, captured his first win in more than 15 months at the Qatar Masters. The 40-year-old Swede jumped 14 places to No. 17 in the rankings, finally making it back to the top 20.

Crane earned his third PGA Tour win, and first since 2005, when he held on for a one-shot victory at the Farmers Insurance Open. The 33-year-old American vaulted 53 positions to No. 56 this week.

At the top of the rankings, Tiger Woods remained the No. 1 golfer and was trailed again by Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Lee Westwood, Jim Furyk and Martin Kaymer as the top six remained unchanged from last week.

Paul Casey used a fifth-place tie in Qatar to advance two places to seventh, dropping Padraig Harrington to eighth.

Rory McIlroy moved up two places to ninth and Henrik Stenson was down two notches to 10th.

Ian Poulter dropped one place to 11th, but positions 12 through 16 remained the same: Geoff Ogilvy, Kenny Perry, Sergio Garcia, Robert Allenby and Sean O'Hair.

Retief Goosen moved up one spot to 18th, sitting just behind Karlsson, while Stewart Cink dropped two notches to 19th. Ernie Els remained 20th and Ross Fisher tumbled three places to 21st.
