  • Saints dealing with thin secondary

Metairie, LA (Sports Network) - New Orleans Saints cornerback Jabari Greer sat out practice for a second straight day Thursday due to a groin injury, highlighting a thin secondary heading into Sunday's divisional matchup with Tampa Bay.

If Greer can't go on Sunday, rookie cornerback Malcolm Jenkins is expected to make his first NFL start on the left side.

On the right side, cornerback Tracy Porter is dealing with a sprained left medial collateral ligament suffered during last weekend's victory over the Rams.

Head coach Sean Payton said earlier in the week he is expected to return to the field this season but is out indefinitely.

Veteran corner Randall Gay is likely to start in place of Porter on Sunday, while New Orleans up and signed Chris McAlister Wednesday to provide depth at the position.

Starting free safety Darren Sharper participated in practice on a limited basis for a second consecutive day due to a knee injury. Also ailing on the defensive side of the ball is defensive end Sedrick Ellis (knee), who has been limited in practice all week.

Also limited Thursday was starting center Jonathan Goodwin (ankle), who sat out Wednesday's practice. Running back Reggie Bush (knee) and wide receiver Lance Moore (ankle) have yet to see the practice field this week, although, Bush is expected to play.
