Blue Bombers coach Kelly fined
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike Kelly has been fined $2,000 following his behavior during a post-game broadcast on a Winnipeg radio station, the CFL announced Monday.
In a statement, CFL commissioner Mark Cohon cited Kelly's language, demeanor, tone and continued pattern of disrespectful behavior toward the media, claiming it reflects the league in a poor manner.
According to The Winnipeg Sun, Kelly swore on-air in an interview following the Bombers' 48-13 loss to Montreal on Sunday.
Kelly then released an apology early Monday morning.
"To all Bomber fans and anyone who may have taken offence to my reaction and comments to interviewers during the post game show following our game against the Alouettes, I extend my sincere apologies," the statement said.
"I could not concur nor accept the assertions made by the interviewers that our players were 'unfocused' and looking towards our next contest. As the Coach of these men I know the professionalism and dedication which they commit in their preparation for each and every game. This group leaves it all on the field week in and week out, regardless of the outcome." The 7-10 Blue Bombers will face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this Sunday.
