  • Als down Ticats thanks to Calvillo, McPherson


    Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Anthony Calvillo and Adrian McPherson each threw a pair of touchdown passes, as the Montreal Alouettes edged the sliding Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 41-38, at Molson Stadium.

    Calvillo completed 14-of-18 passes for 232 yards while McPherson connected on 10-of-11 passes for 110 yards for the Alouettes, who have won six straight.

    Kerry Watkins caught four passes for 102 yards and a TD, while Jamel Richardson hauled in four balls for 97 yards and a score. Avon Cobourne rushed for 34 yards and a score on 13 carries for Montreal (13-2), which has already locked up the East Division title.

    Kevin Glenn completed 29-of-44 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns for the Tiger-Cats (6-9), who have lost four in a row. Arland Bruce III caught nine passes for 155 yards and a TD. Marquay McDaniel hauled in seven balls for 84 yards and two scores. Deandra Cobb rushed for 58 yards on 11 carries in defeat.

    Hamilton cut the deficit to 34-31 when Glenn hit McDaniel with a 14-yard TD pass with about 6 1/2 minutes to play.

    The Alouettes sealed the victory when McPherson connected with Richardson on a nine-yard TD pass for a 41-31 lead with less than 2 1/2 minutes left.

    McDaniel's 23-yard touchdown catch with less than a minutes left accounted for the final margin.0000 A 55-yard Nick Setta single early in the first quarter put Hamilton ahead by one. Montreal responded with a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a two-yard TD pass from McPherson to Mike Giffin for a 7-1 lead.

    On the fourth play of the ensuing Tiger-Cats possession, Glenn hit Bruce with a 24-yard TD pass for an 8-7 edge with about 6 1/2 minutes left.

    The Alouettes scored a touchdown during their first drive of the second period to take a 14-8 lead. Calvillo's 11-yard TD pass to Watkins capped the 101-yard drive which Richardson highlighted with a 63-yard catch.

    Hamilton fought right back with a one-yard TD run by Adam Tafralis to take a 15-14 edge with about 7 1/2 minutes left until half. Montreal used a one-yard Cobourne TD run to take a 21-15 lead at the break.

    The Alouettes went ahead 28-15 early in the third when Calvillo hit Ben Cahoon with a nine-yard TD pass.

    A pair of Setta field goals -- 44 and 24 yards -- and a 42-yard Damon Duval field goal made it 31-21 in favor of Montreal after three periods.

    Montreal held onto a 10-point edge after an 18-yard Duval field goal and a 12- yard Setta field goal early in the fourth.

    Game Notes Montreal maintains an 83-74-7 advantage in regular-season meetings, winning four in a row and 12 of the last 13 encounters. Last month, the Als picked up a 42-8 triumph at Hamilton...In Week 17, the Ticats travel to Toronto on Friday, while the Alouettes head to Winnipeg on Saturday...The Alouettes have won eight straight home games.
