Bishop, Blue Bombers down Tiger-Cats
Hamilton, ON (Sports Network) - Michael Bishop threw for 356 yards and three scores, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers held on to beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 38-28.
Bishop was also intercepted twice, while Adarius Bowman made 10 catches for 213 yards and a pair of scores for Winnipeg (6-8), which extended its season- high winning streak to three. Fred Reid ran eight times for 66 yards, and Alexis Serna made three field goals in the victory.
Kevin Glenn completed 21-of-34 passes for 273 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with one interception for Hamilton (6-8), which has lost three in a row.
The Tiger-Cats have struggled with the first quarter all season, being outscored 124-47 in that period, and Monday only contributed to the problem as Winnipeg put up 15 points.
After Hamilton punted on the game's opening drive, Winnipeg needed just three plays for a score. Bishop went to Bowman for a 52-yard gain to bring the ball across midfield, and after an incompletion, Bishop found Bowman again, down the middle of the field, for a 43-yard score.
Later in the period, with the Tiger-Cats backed up to their own nine-yard- line, Quinton Porter fumbled upon being sacked. Lenny Walls was there and picked up the ball and ran it into the end zone for another touchdown.
Winnipeg picked up a single in the final moments of the quarter to make it a 15-0 game.
With nearly five minutes elapsed in the second quarter, the Bombers took over at their own 52 and went for another score, gaining most of the yardage on runs.
After reaching the Hamilton 20, Bishop again found Bowman for a touchdown. The conversion was unsuccessful, leaving Winnipeg with a 21-0 lead.
Bishop was intercepted twice on end-zone attempts later in the half, but the Bombers continued to widen their lead in the third.
Serna made an 18-yarder, and Bishop found Brock Ralph for a 20-yard score to make it a 31-point game.
It was too big a hole for Hamilton to overcome, though they got on the scoreboard with Glenn's 32-yard TD pass to Drisan James with under three minutes left in the third.
A Winnipeg single made it a 32-7 contest heading into the fourth, when Hamilton put up 21 points to make it close.
The Tiger-Cats got a four-yard fumble return for a touchdown from Markeith Knowlton in the opening few minutes, and Serna answered with a 43-yarder with 12 minutes to play.
Adam Tafralis scored on a one-yard run with under eight minutes left, and Serna kicked a 38-yarder with three minutes left to make it a 38-21 game.
Glenn's 14-yard TD pass to Corey Grant with 1 1/2 minutes to play closed the scoring.
Game Notes Ralph finished with five catches for 98 yards for Winnipeg...DeAndra' Cobb had 53 yards rushing on eight carries in addition to six catches for 22 yards for the Tiger-Cats.
