  • Uchiyama beats Salgado for WBA crown

Tokyo, Japan (Sports Network) - Japan's Takashi Uchiyama thrilled the home crowd with a 12th-round TKO of previous champion Juan Carlos Salgado to capture the WBA super featherweight title.

Uchiyama (14-0, 11 KOs) knocked Salgado down in the final round and the Mexican was able to get to his feet before referee Raul Caiz stopped the bout with 12 seconds remaining.

Salgado (21-1-1) had claimed the title last October with a first-round TKO of previous champion Jorge Linares.

Also on Monday's card, Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym of Thailand retained his WBA super bantamweight crown with a majority decision over previously unbeaten Satoshi Hosono of Japan.

Two judges scored the bout in favor of Kratingdaenggym, 115-113 and 117-113, while another had it as a 114-114 draw.

Kratingdaenggym (40-1, 28 KOs) won his title last September with a third-round knockout of Bernard Dunne.
