Greene's big night leads Kings over Knicks
Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Donte Greene poured in 24 points and had career-highs with five assists and six blocks, as the Sacramento Kings used a balanced attack to dominate the lowly New York Knicks, 111-97, at ARCO Arena.
"It's not surprising to me," Green said of his six blocked shots. "I was third in the Big East in blocked shots. I can block shots, I just need the opportunity to do so." Rookie Tyreke Evans added 19 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists for the Kings, who snapped a four-game skid. Evans' streak of seven straight games with 20 points or more came to an end.
Spencer Hawes chipped in 16 points while Sergio Rodriguez had 15 for Sacramento, which started a four-game homestand Wednesday. Seven of the nine Kings players were in double-digits.
David Lee paced the Knicks with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Nate Robinson tallied a season-high 25 points for New York, which has lost three in a row. Al Harrington added 17 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in defeat.
"I thought we battled back in the first half and had a chance," said New York head coach Mike D'Antoni said.
"We got it to 10 so it was a game.
And immediately we lost in transition two players and they hit threes to make it 16 before we knew it. That's when I called a timeout. You can't come out like that." The Kings never looked back after starting the game on a 19-6 run. Andres Nocioni had eight points during the spurt that Greene ended with a trey at the midway point of the period. Sacramento led 30-24 heading to the second.
Sacramento started the second stanza with a 15-4 run to take control. Evans tallied six points during that flurry, which Jon Brockman finished with a deuce for a 45-28 margin with under six minutes left until half. The Kings held a 61-51 lead at the break.
A Greene three-pointer capped an 11-0 run and gave Sacramento an 89-66 lead with over 2 1/2 minutes left in the third. The margin was 93-73 heading to the fourth.
The Knicks never got closer than 14 in the fourth.
Game Notes Sacramento shot 48.3 percent from the field, while New York made 38.5 percent of its shots...The Kings have won 11 of their last 13 home games with the Knicks but did drop last year's encounter in Sacramento, a 114-90 blowout.
