Sixers welcome Grizzlies to Wachovia Center
(Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies hope to extend their season-high winning streak to three games this evening, when they pay a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center.
Memphis has won back-to-back games since a seven-game losing streak and recently recorded a 106-91 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday from FedEx Forum. Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph each scored 21 points, while Marc Gasol tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Grizzlies, who won both tests on a brief two-game homestand.
"Guys are on the same page. We hold guys accountable," Randolph said of the recent success. "Myself and everybody else, it starts on defense." O.J. Mayo scored 16 points for Memphis, which never trailed in the game and shot 54.3 percent from the field. The Grizzlies have yet to win on the road this season, however, as they own an 0-6 mark as the visitor.
Meanwhile, the 76ers ended a two-game slide with Wednesday's 86-84 triumph at home versus the Charlotte Bobcats.
Lou Williams scored 19 points and made the game-winning layup with 3.1 seconds left in the final stanza for the Sixers, won for just the second time in six tries. Williams also had six assists in a winning effort.
Andre Iguodala poured in 25 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Elton Brand had his best game of the season, tallying season-highs of 19 points, 11 boards and six blocks.
"It was a great win. A lot of people had key roles. Obviously, Elton was really solid for us," said Sixers head coach Eddie Jordan.
Philadelphia won both meetings with Memphis in 2008-09 and has won five straight and seven of the last eight matchups between the teams. Memphis has lost four straight and is just 3-10 in the City of Brotherly Love.
