  • James expected to be named MVP

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers have called a Monday news conference, at which time it is expected that superstar LeBron James will be announced as the NBA's Most Valuable Player.

The news conference will take place at James' old high school, St. Vincent-St. Mary, in Akron, Ohio.

According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, James' teammates are expected to be in attendance, as will representatives from Kia to present James with a new car as part of the honor.

James will be the first Cavalier to win the award. He averaged 28.4 points, second in the league to Miami's Dwyane Wade (30.2), to go along with 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists.

His seven triple-doubles were the most in the league.

The Cavaliers finished with the best record in the league at 66-16 and swept Detroit in their first-round playoff series.

While the announcement is expected Monday, the award will be presented to James before Game 1 of Cleveland's Eastern Conference semifinal series against Atlanta on Tuesday.
