Roy has successful surgery
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee.
The All-Star from the University of Washington learned of the injury following an MRI on Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined four-to-eight weeks.
Portland team physician Dr.
Don Roberts performed the surgery at Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center in Vancouver, Washington.
"We are looking forward to Brandon making a full recovery and expect him to be ready for the start of the regular season," Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard said.
The sixth overall pick by Minnesota in 2006, Roy averaged 19.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 74 games to earn his first All-Star spot in just his second season.
In 2006 he garnered the NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 16.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 57 games.
