  • Former Kentucky coach Gillispie pleads guilty to DUI

Lawrenceburg, KY (Sports Network) - Former University of Kentucky head men's basketball coach Billy Gillispie has pleaded guilty to a DUI charge.

The Daily Press on Monday revealed that Gillispie, who was arrested for driving under the influence on August 27 in Lawrenceburg, was given the maximum penalty allowed for a first-time offender.

As a result, Gillispie will have to fork over a little more than $1,000, see his license suspended for 30 days and must complete a special drivers' education program relating to alcohol.

Gillispie's rocky tenure with the Wildcats ended after two years and a 41-27 record along with acrimony over a protracted lawsuit against the university, accusing it of fraud and breach of contract.

Kentucky finished the 2008-09 season at 22-14 and had its string of 17 straight NCAA Tournament appearances snapped.

Gillispie has racked up a 140-85 record in seven years as a collegiate head coach.

He was 30-32 with one NCAA Tournament berth in two years at UTEP and 70-26 with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in three seasons at Texas A&M.
