  • Bowling Green signs Orr to extension

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Bowling Green State University has signed men's basketball coach Louis Orr to a two-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season.

Orr led Bowling Green to a 19-14 record and the Mid-American Conference regular season championship last season, his second with the school. He was named the MAC Coach of the Year as the Falcons also advanced to the National Invitation Tournament for the first time since 2002.

"It's a blessing to be a part of the Bowling Green family," Orr said. "It's good to know that people support what you are trying to do and want to see you be successful. Being a good steward of this tremendous opportunity I have been given to make a positive impact on the lives of our student-athletes is extremely important to me." Bowling Green went 13-17 in Orr's first year.

Prior to coaching the Falcons, Orr spent five seasons at Seton Hall (2001-06), compiling a record of 80-69. He was named the Big East Conference's Coach of the Year in 2003, becoming the first person in league history to receive league honors as a player and as a coach. Orr played college basketball at Syracuse before spending eight seasons in the NBA with Indiana and the New York Knicks.

He began his coaching career as an assistant under Pete Gillen at Xavier University in his hometown of Cincinnati, spending four years there (1991-94). He also served assistant-coaching stints at Providence College (1994-96) and Syracuse (1996-2000), helping those three teams to a combined four NCAA tourney appearances and four NIT trips.
