At issue was Stephenson's amateur status after he starred in a documentary with questions if his family received compensation.
As a senior last year at Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, Stephenson averaged 28.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He had some off-court issues though after being charged with sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl. Stephenson later agreed to a plea deal to a charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and didn't serve jail time.

The NCAA's Committee on Infractions said the school failed to monitor its athletics program and the head men's and women's basketball coaches did not promote an atmosphere of compliance.
According to the NCAA, the case involved 516 impermissible text messages and 83 impermissible phone calls to 17 total prospective student-athletes and parents.

The Daily Press on Monday revealed that Gillispie, who was arrested for driving under the influence on August 27 in Lawrenceburg, was given the maximum penalty allowed for a first-time offender.
As a result, Gillispie will have to fork over a little more than $1,000, see his license suspended for 30 days and must complete a special drivers' education program relating to alcohol.

Wall has to repay expenses and sit out for two games, including the regular- season opener against Morehead State on November 13.
The 6-foot-4 Wall, who was the top recruit according to several publications, has to pay expenses totaling $787.58, mostly from travel for his unofficial visits to various institutions during his junior year at Word of God Christian Academy.

The school released a statement Tuesday saying Smalling, the captain of the team, died at approximately 8:40 p.m. and called it a "senseless accident." He was 22.

"We are pleased with the progress of the student- athletes, both on and off the court, and Dino is responsible for that progress." Gaudio, who came to the school as an assistant in 2002, took over for Skip Prosser on August 8, 2007 after the head coach died of an apparent heart attack in July of the same year. Gaudio has guided the program to a 41-20 mark in his first two seasons.

Interim athletic director James Norris said he put Broadus on leave after discussions with school president Lois B. DeFleur and vice president James Van Voorst. Assistant coach Mark Macon will take over on an interim basis.
"There have been continuing incidents of concern related to the men's basketball program that do not measure up to Binghamton University's high standards," Norris said in a release.

Back in May, Gillispie filed a lawsuit against the university's athletics association, accusing them of both breach of contract and fraud for his firing only two years into a seven-year agreement.
Gillispie, who went 40-27 in his two seasons with the Wildcats, was originally looking for $6 million in back pay for "termination without cause." Kentucky responded with a countersuit, stating no "cause" was required for Gillispie's termination and that he refused to come to a long-term contract.

Jayhawks coach Bill Self made the announcement about the suspension of Morningstar, who is a redshirt junior. He started all but one game in 2008-09 and averaged 6.5 points.
"We are aware of the situation," Self said. "We are also still fact finding. Regardless of the details that concern the reason for him being stopped, he broke team rules that have been much more stringent since last week. Brady was in serious violation of curfew. Because of that and his extremely poor judgment last night, I have decided to suspend him for the first semester from all competition and travel."

Spiker takes over for Jim Crews, who was fired on September 24 after seven seasons and a record of 60-139 with the U.S. Military Academy.
This marks the first head coaching assignment for Spiker, who spent the past five seasons as an assistant at Cornell. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Winthrop from 2000-02 and as an administrative assistant at his hometown school, West Virginia, from 2002-04.

Martin, who sat out last season after transferring from Purdue in June of 2008, was hurt in a preseason team workout Thursday. He is expected to have surgery during the week of October 19 and should be recovered for the 2010-11 season.
"I am very disappointed for Scott," said Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey. "He had worked so hard last season in practices and in the weight room improving his overall strength and getting himself ready to be a big part of our lineup this season. We are expecting Scott to make a full recovery and he will use this year to rehabilitate his knee in preparation for the 2010-11 season. Penn State is coming off a 2008-09 season in which it set a school record for victories, going 27-11, and won the NIT Championship, the program's first-ever national postseason tournament title. Orr led Bowling Green to a 19-14 record and the Mid-American Conference regular season championship last season, his second with the school. He was named the MAC Coach of the Year as the Falcons also advanced to the National Invitation Tournament for the first time since 2002.

James Norris, the school's senior associate athletic director, will replace Thirer on an interim basis, announced school president Lois B. DeFleur.
"Recently there have been specific instances where student-athletics have not complied with our standards, and we took immediate action," said DeFleur. "Today, I am announcing...Dr. Joel Thirer will be stepping down as director of health, physical education and athletics, effective immediately. He will be assigned to the office of the provost, where he will work on projects related to undergraduate transfer issues." In addition, the team's head coach, Kevin Broadus, will have to provide DeFleur with a recruitment and supervision plan for the school's basketball program.

In seven years at the U.S. Military Academy, Crews posted a record of just 60-139.
"There was a series of events that led me down the path to determine that I needed to make a change in leadership of the men's basketball program and terminate coach Crews' contract," said Army athletic director Kevin Anderson in a statement. "I am very disappointed with some things that have come to my attention in recent days and I have decided that it is in the best interests of the basketball program and the institution to terminate our relationship." Army was 11-19 last year. The Black Knights never had a winning record under Crews, whose best season was 15-16 in 2006-07.

The 2012 Final Four will be played at the Superdome in New Orleans and the 2013 event is slated for the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
"Having recently completed the Final Four site selection process, the committee knew this would be a challenge," said Dan Guerrero, director of athletics at UCLA and current basketball committee chair. "We received some 70 bids and each city could, justifiably, provide a quality championship experience for the student-athletes.

The action extends Williams' contract, which includes automatic extensions for academic and athletic benchmarks, through June 30, 2013.
"I'm pleased for Gary that he met the competitive and academic benchmarks of his contract," said Maryland athletics director Deborah A. Yow. "The 2009-10 season has the potential to be one of the best in recent memory." Williams' Terrapins teams have gone 418-229 in his 20 seasons as head coach, which includes a national championship in 2002 and an ACC title in 2004. He is the winningest coach in Maryland history, and overall owns a 625-357 record in 31 seasons as a head coach.
