  • CBA awards expansion franchise to Oklahoma City

Albany, NY (Sports Network) - The Continental Basketball Association has awarded an expansion franchise to group based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City has previously been part of the CBA, as the Cavalry called the city home from the 1990-91 season through the 1996-97 campaign.

"We are glad to be able to bring Oklahoma City back into the CBA," said CBA Director of Operations Dennis Truax.

The team will be owned by Hopgood and Associations, a holding company for Hopell Home Builders, Destiny Capital Mortgage and Baron Hopgood Ministries.

"We are very excited about being a part of the CBA," stated majority owner and Oklahoma City native Baron Hopgood. "Joining the CBA creates an opportunity to keep professional basketball in Oklahoma City with an established and credible league. Oklahoma City loves basketball and our team will provide exciting and competitive professional basketball for the city."

Oklahoma City recently served as the home away from home for the NBA's New Orleans Hornets for the past two years, as the city of New Orleans continued its recovery from the effects of Hurricane Katrina. The Hornets are slated to move back to Louisiana for the 2007-08 campaign.
