  • Reds agree to one-year deal with Hernandez

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Reds have re-signed catcher Ramon Hernandez to one-year deal. Financial details were not released, but the contract includes a vesting option for 2011 that will become guaranteed if Hernandez appears in 120 games next season.

"It's a good place with great players," Hernandez told the team's website. "I know they'll do very good next season. That's why I decided to come back." Hernandez, whose $8.5 million option was declined and bought out for $1 million last week, appeared in just 81 games in his first year with the Reds last season and hit .258 with five home runs and 37 RBI. However, he did hit .328 with runners in scoring position.

Acquired from Baltimore prior to the start of last season, knee injuries plagued Hernandez for most of the year, but he is expected to be 100-percent once spring training starts.

An 11-year veteran and an All-Star in 2003 with Oakland, Hernandez is a career .262 hitter with 142 homers and 639 RBI in 1,269 games with the Athletics, San Diego Padres, Orioles and Reds.
