Olympic Table Tennis - Singles Competition

Olympic table tennis singles format is a single elimination system in which 64 players are seeded into a three round playoff - seeds 33 and lower play the first round, those winners play seeds 17-32 in the second round, and those winners play seeds 1-16 in the third round. The single elimination format continues to a bronze medal match between the semifinal losers and a gold medal match between the semifinal winners.

Olympic Table Tennis - Team Competition

For the 2008 Beijing Olympics, double table tennis will be modified into a type of team competition in which each team consists of three players from the same country, but only two teammates play together at one time in a doubles match.

16 teams are divided into four groups of four that play each other in a round robin format. In the Olympic format playoff system that follows, basically, the teams with the best records play a semifinal which determines the bronze medal game and gold medal game.

Olympic table tennis medals are awarded in the following events:

• Men's Singles
• Men's Teams
• Women's Singles
• Women's Teams
