The rules and tournament format for singles and doubles are very similar to playing tennis on the professional tour. The tournament is a single elimination format with the semifinal winners playing for gold and the losers competing for bronze.
There are 64 players in both the men's and women's singles draw with the top 16 players being seeded. There are 32 teams in both the men's and women's doubles event with the top 8 teams seeded.
Men's Olympic tennis matches are best of three sets except in the finals, which are best of five. All of the women's matches are best of three sets.
