Olympic Handball

12 teams are divided into two groups of six teams that play each other in a round robin format. The bottom two teams in each group are given the 9th through 12th ranking based on their records. In the Olympic format playoff system that follows, basically, the four teams in each group with the best round robin records will play-off to determine the teams in the bronze medal game and gold medal game. Eliminated teams play one more game to determine the standings in 4th place through 8th.
