Olympic 50 km Race Walk
Race walking is commonly mistaken as speed walking. Race walking is a highly regulated competition with officials along the entire length of the course. The Olympic 50km race walk is a men-only competition.
There's no running in the race walk. The main rule is that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. A competitor's toe cannot leave the ground until the front foot touches the ground, and the leg supporting the body must straighten underneath the competitor and remain straight until after the body passes over the leg. Judges monitor the entire course and can issue "red cards" for violations of the rules.
