  • Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 10:10 ET

Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC

Chavez Ravine was witness to another extra innings walk-off win in the first of three MLB betting battles between the NL West rival Colorado Rockies (40-36, +$636) and Los Angeles Dodgers (49-28, +$1773) when Andre Ethier hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th last night. The homer was his fourth walk-off hit this season, and the Dodgers won for the 14th time this season in their last at bat. At 21-games over .500, Manager Joe Torre’s club boasts the best mark in all of baseball going into tonight’s battle. In holding that record, they’re also the most lucrative team for MLB bettors reeling in close to $1800 on the year for their baseball wagering supporters. They’ve been downright lethal at home winning 27 of their 39 overall games (+939), and have won the opening game of a home series 10-of-14 times. The tough luck loss was only the Rockies third in their L/10 games. Since Jim Tracy took over for Clint Hurdle, the Rockies have won 21 of their L/30 overall games (+$1644) and rattled off winning streaks of 11 and six in a row during that stretch. The Rockies have been the best for their wagering supporters in ’09 as a visitor going 23-21 for a net return of $828. The Dodgers have dominated the season series with the Rockies winning nine of the 10 overall meetings to date. LA holds a seven-game lead over the SF Giants for the top spot in the NL West with the Rockies 8.5 games off the pace.

Fireballing right-hander Chad Billingsley currently sits as a lofty -175 home favorite in Game 2 of this three-game baseball betting set, with the ‘total’ set at 8.5 over -110.

Jason Marquis was a tremendous off-season acquisition for Colorado as the righty has gone 9-5 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through his 15 starts. He missed out on becoming the NL’s first 10-game winner his last time out against the red hot LA Angels getting lit up for nine hits and seven earned runs through just 3.1 innings of work. He’s 5-3 with a 4.10 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in eight starts on the road, and he’s dominated the Dodgers throughout his career going 4-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 10 tries.

Chad Billingsley coughed up a three-run lead for the second time in as many starts his last time out against the Chicago White Sox. He managed to go just six innings allowing four hits (2 HR) and five ER’s. He’s been wild of late walking nine batters in his last two starts while striking out just six. He’s been tough to beat in Dodgers Stadium going 6-2 on the year with a 3.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, and he’s 2-2 with a 4.06 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in seven career starts vs. the Rockies.

Colorado is 4-2 as a road underdog in the +150 to +175 range this season, but it’s a poor 11-18 against NL West opponents on the year. LA is 6-3 as a home chalk in the -150 to -175 range in ’09, and it’s 18-12 when playing against a team with a winning record. The Dodgers have upended the Rockies in 12 of the L/14 overall meetings, and the series has been of the high scoring variety with the ‘over’ going 6-2-1 in the L/9 meetings.

Can the Rockies bounce back from its heartbreaking extra innings defeat last night and snap the Dodgers four-game winning streak in the series, or will the Dodgers continue the mastery of their division rival?
