  • Chicago Cubs vs. Detroit Tigers 1:05 ET

Posted on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC

The Detroit Tigers (40-31, +$705) took another MLB betting battle from the floundering Chicago Cubs (34-34, -$797) last night, and have now rattled off six straight wins against the NL Central. The victory now finds the Tigers winners of six in a row and six of their L/10 (+$160), while the Cubs have dropped three in a row after winning its previous four. Detroit has secured victories in 22 of its 33 Comerica games this season to reel a profit in of $818 for its baseball betting backers, while the Cubs continue to stink the joint up on the road winning just 13 of their 34 overall games (-$1019). At nine games over .500, Manager Jim Leyland’s club owns a five-game lead for bragging rights in the AL Central, while Manager Lou Piniella’s underachieving club sits 3.5-games in back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Detroit has dominated the Cubs in Interleague betting play rattling off six straight victories dating back to the 2001 season. The Cubs are 5-4 in the third game of a series off a loss in the 2nd game, while the Tigers are a bankroll building 9-1 in game 3 off a victory in game 2 this season.

The 1st place Tigers and Armando Galarraga shockingly sit as +106 home underdogs against Ted Lilly and the Cubs for the finale of this three-game MLB betting set; the game ‘total’ currently sits at 9 over -110.

Ted Lilly was masterful once again his last time out against the Cleveland Indians. The lefty notched his team-leading 11th quality start by tossing six innings of three-run ball while striking out six and walking none. While he didn’t pick up a decision, he’s 7-4 on the year with a 3.04 ERA and the Cubs are 10-4 in his 14 overall starts. He has however been at his worst as a visitor where he’s 3-3 and his ERA jumps to 4.40. He’s thrown six or more innings in a career high 10 straight games, and he’s 2-3 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in six career starts against the Tigers.

Since getting off to a tremendous start to his 2009 campaign (3-0 with a 1.85 ERA in April), Armando Galarraga is 0-7 with just three quality starts since. He’s allowed three or more earned runs in every start since May 1st, and the Tigers currently stand 6-8 in all his outings to date. At home, the righty is 2-3 with a 5.35 ERA allowing 41 hits and 21 earned runs with a K/BB ratio of 20/13. However, he’s been at his best during the day where he’s a perfect 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA allowing just 23 hits and 10 ER’s through 26+ total innings of work. This will be his first career start against the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs have failed to secure a victory in each of their L/8 Interleague road games, and they’re 6-7 as a favorite on the road in the -100 to -125 range. They’re also 3-7 after three or more consecutive losses on the year. The Tigers have dominated their opposition during the day compiling an 18-7 record that’s reeled in upwards of $1000 in profits for their betting backers on the year. Over bettors have made out nicely in this series as it’s cashed in six of the L/8 overall meetings.

The Cubs have wasted so many opportunities on their current road trip. Will they actually take advantage of them against arguably the Tigers worst starting pitcher, or will Detroit increase its winning streak to seven straight against the Cubs.
