  • And with the return of Manny will come the countless news stories and columns bashing Ramirez's legacy, the jaded view of his stats before and after and, of course, legions of Padres fans that have been waiting two months to sink their claws into one of baseball's most polarizing players.

  • While the eyes of baseball bettors focused on the Colorado Rockies' and the Tampa Bay Rays' return to form, the Angels quietly compiled 17 wins in June and improved their season record to 42-33. Halos backers made out like bandits last month and have earned nearly 11 units on the year.

  • The Chicago White Sox (39-38, +$181) surpassed the .500 mark last night after winning its fourth straight and 11th in its L/15 tries against the Cleveland Indians (31-48, -$2041) at Progressive Field. The White Sox now own a winning record for the first time since they were 12-11 back in May. They set the tone for the evening in the 1st inning when RF Jermaine Dye plated his 47th RBI of the season to give them a 1-0 lead that blossomed to three immediately once 1B Paul Konerko busted a 2-for-15 slump by launching a two-run shot. Cliff Lee had gone into last night’s start riding a 22-inning scoreless streak against the White Sox, but that got put to a halt real quickly after Chicago lit him up for 11 hits and seven runs in 3+ innings. Lefty Clayton Richard was masterful early on, but after a short 32-minute rain delay, came back in and surrendered four earned runs. Since getting off to a rough start on the road in ’09, the White Sox are a $$$-making 12-4 SU their L/16 earning their e...

  • With the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the healthy New England Patriots, the explosive San Diego Chargers, and the steady Indianapolis Colts all calling the conference home, it would seem that the next Super Bowl winner will come out of the AFC.

  • Chavez Ravine was witness to another extra innings walk-off win in the first of three MLB betting battles between the NL West rival Colorado Rockies (40-36, +$636) and Los Angeles Dodgers (49-28, +$1773) when Andre Ethier hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th last night. The homer was his fourth walk-off hit this season, and the Dodgers won for the 14th time this season in their last at bat. At 21-games over .500, Manager Joe Torre’s club boasts the best mark in all of baseball going into tonight’s battle. In holding that record, they’re also the most lucrative team for MLB bettors reeling in close to $1800 on the year for their baseball wagering supporters. They’ve been downright lethal at home winning 27 of their 39 overall games (+939), and have won the opening game of a home series 10-of-14 times. The tough luck loss was only the Rockies third in their L/10 games. Since Jim Tracy took over for Clint Hurdle, the Rockies have won 21 of their L/30 overall games (+$1644) and...

  • Some bettors jump on these odds early, hoping nothing drastic happens between then and kickoff. Other gamblers wait until minutes before the coin toss before placing their wager. Whether you believe the early bird gets the worm, or you're waiting for the last laugh, here's a look at some of the NFC's early Week 1 lines.

  • The Blackhawks made a run in the NHL playoffs. The Bears acquired quarterback Jay Cutler. And the White Sox and Cubs kicked off the 2009 MLB season.

  • The Detroit Tigers (40-31, +$705) took another MLB betting battle from the floundering Chicago Cubs (34-34, -$797) last night, and have now rattled off six straight wins against the NL Central. The victory now finds the Tigers winners of six in a row and six of their L/10 (+$160), while the Cubs have dropped three in a row after winning its previous four. Detroit has secured victories in 22 of its 33 Comerica games this season to reel a profit in of $818 for its baseball betting backers, while the Cubs continue to stink the joint up on the road winning just 13 of their 34 overall games (-$1019). At nine games over .500, Manager Jim Leyland’s club owns a five-game lead for bragging rights in the AL Central, while Manager Lou Piniella’s underachieving club sits 3.5-games in back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Detroit has dominated the Cubs in Interleague betting play rattling off six straight victories dating back to the 2001 season. The Cubs are 5-4 in the third game o...

  • Whether a player is hot, cold, cheating on his wife, or has bad breath, chances are fans can read about it in the daily rags. It's the price you pay for playing ball for two of the most popular sports franchises in America.

  • Both the Los Angeles Dodgers (47-24, +2100) and Chicago White Sox (33-37, -$435) pick Interleague play back up on Wednesday night from beautiful US Cellular Field for the second of three baseball betting battles. The Dodgers enter tonight’s confrontation with the Palehose with the best record in all of baseball after taking the first game of this series by a 5-2 final count behind a stellar pitching performance from Hiroki Kuroda who tossed 8.2 innings of two-run ball. Manager Joe Torre’s Dodgers own a solid 8.5-game lead in the NL West over the San Francisco Giants. As a visitor in ’09, the Manny-less Dodgers have been stellar winning 22 of their 36 overall games to put a robust $1078 worth of MLB wagering profit in their betting backer’s pockets. The White Sox have caught fire of late winning six of their L/10 overall (+$350), which includes a series win at Cincinnati in Interleague betting play over the weekend. Though John Danks churned out another quality start last night throw...

  • That’s the point, and that’s why these teams are value plays. If bettors only wagered on the chalk, then no one would make any money. New England and Pittsburgh are at the top of the odds list, but they also provide the smallest returns. If you’re looking for better value in your Super Bowl outright plays, these teams should be on your handicapping list:

  • Turner Field and the Atlanta Braves (33-36, -$907) welcome in the New York Yankees (38-31, -$848) for the first of three MLB Interleague betting affairs starting Tuesday night. Neither of these clubs has been kind to MLB bettors throughout the 2009 season evidenced by their combined deficit of close to $1800 on the year. The Yankees currently sit four-games in back of the Boston Red Sox for the top spot in the AL East, while the Braves sit four-games in back of the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees invade “Hotlanta” in terrible form after dropping four of six against both the Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins. In Interleague play, Derek Jeter and the overpriced Yanks are 5-7 overall costing baseball bettors a whopping $820 overall. NY has been kinder to its betting backers as a visitor evidenced by its 17-17 overall record (-$381), but enters tonight’s spot 4-6 its L/10. The Braves sit a game over .500 against the American League this season (5-4) making thei...

  • While it’s certainly enticing to simply go with the chalk at the top of the betting odds list, handicappers would be wise to go beyond assessing the favored New England Patriots. Remember it was the Patriots who couldn’t finish the job two years ago after running the table in the regular season and through the AFC playoffs.

  • Two of the biggest $$$-making teams of the 2009 MLB betting season hook up tonight for the first of three when the Los Angeles Dodgers (44-23, +$1781) and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (35-29, +$820) duke it out to become the toast of Tinseltown. Manager Joe Torre’s Dodgers enter tonight’s game winners in four of their L/5 after capturing their Interleague betting home series against the Oakland A’s. They rallied late to capture a 3-2 victory last night, and will look to continue its fine play on the road. Entering tonight’s play, the Dodgers are the single best bet in the “Bigs” hauling in a whopping $1781 for their baseball betting backers. They’ve dominated their opposition at home (25-10, +$1022), but they’ve been just as good as a visitor winning 19 of their 32 road games for a profit of $759 overall. They’ve also posted a winning mark in their nine Interleague match-ups (5-4), and own a comfortable lead in the NL West nine-games ahead of the SF Giants. As for the other LA team...

  • One disappointing club that has a real chance to turn it around is the Chicago Cubs (30-31, -8.97 units), the most well documented of the first-half flameouts. The Cubs went into the season as the favorites to win the National League after cashing 97 games last year, but they’ve failed to muster the same amount of offense as a year ago. That’s going to change when Aramis Ramirez returns to the lineup from his shoulder injury in the coming weeks.

  • The “Lone Star Series” picks back up Thursday night from the beautiful Ballpark in Arlington when the Houston Astros (29-34, -$400) and Texas Rangers (37-27, +$1213) lock horns for their sixth and final MLB betting match-up of the 2009 season. Last night was supposed to be all about Catcher Ivan Rodriguez who broke Carlton Fisk’s record for the most games caught (2,227), but the Rangers took advantage of three Astros errors and got the best of Houston for the fifth time this season. David Murphy’s one-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning handed the visitors their second loss in a row. The defeat was Houston’s fifth in its L/10 games played, and they currently own a 13-16 overall mark as a visitor that’s cost their baseball betting backers $85 on the year. At five games under .500, Manager Cecil Cooper’s club sits 6.5-games off the pace set by the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central Division. As for Texas, last night’s extra inning victory improved their mark to 22-13 at h...

  • Look no further than the National League West, where both the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have surprised in the first half of the season. It’s no surprise the Dodgers (43-22, +18.38 units) are in first place in the division, only that they’re the most profitable wager in baseball to go along with having the best record in the standings.

  • A pair of fireballers will look to lead their respective teams to victory in Wednesday night Interleague betting action at Bookmaker Sportsbook when Max Scherzer and the Arizona Diamondbacks (27-38, -$1359) square off against potential Cy Young Award winner Zach Greinke and the Kansas City Royals (29-34, -$479). The Royals took the lead in the three-game MLB betting series last night as Gil Meche tossed a complete game gem limiting the D’Backs to no runs and just four hits. The victory was the Royals fourth in a row and improved their record to 29-34 on the year where they sit 4.5-games in back of the AL Central Division leading Detroit Tigers. KC has cost baseball bettors $$$ overall this season, but they sit four games over .500 within Kauffman Stadium (19-15) and churned out a $192 profit for its betting backers. Picked by some to capture the NL West crown, Arizona has grossly underachieved this season en route to becoming the second worst bet in all of baseball (-$1359) only beh...

  • There's no doubt adding Favre would shift the Vikings' odds in the NFC North, making them an even bigger favorite to win the division (currently at +155). But until that happens – and don't hold your breath – these offseason moves should impact how bookmakers and bettors treat the teams involved.

  • Terrell Owens to the Buffalo Bills

  • The Red Wings currently sit as lofty -195 favorites with the ‘total’ set at 5.5 under -130 for the 7th and final game of the 2008-09 NHL betting season.

  • Two of the biggest contributors are Chad Billingsley and Eric Stults, who had combined for over 11 betting units as of Wednesday. And despite the moneyline prices on Los Angeles hovering around -200, these two arms continue to make a bundle with the best team in the bigs behind them.

  • Though they lost outright, the Lakers had to be somewhat satisfied with how they played in Game 3. They went into very hostile territory and almost pulled out another outright victory as a road underdog. As a team, they shot 51.3% from the field on 40-of-78 shooting and converted 8 of their 23 shots from beyond the arc (34.8%). Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 31 points and d...

  • Leading the American League money rankings is Los Angeles Angels righthander Matt Palmer, who is 5-0 with an ERA just over 4.00 but will likely be used out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season now that Kelvim Escobar has returned from the DL.

  • Sportsbook odds have Arizona priced at +900 to win the NFC championship again, and have the team as a -145 favorite to top the NFC West. As long as Kurt Warner can continue to dodge Father Time and has Larry Fitzgerald and/or Anquan Boldin to throw to, the Cardinals should win the NFL's weakest division.
